Tips
- Instead of using whole eggs, try
substituting three egg whites for every whole egg.
- To help lower your cholesterol,
use egg substitutes.
- Applesauce can be used instead
of oil in some recipes, giving it the same consistency.
- Instead of using sugar, try using
honey or molasses.
- Use chicken broth for red wine
in recipes. Alcohol is very high in calories and the calories stay behind
after the alcohol cooks off.
- NEVER FRY foods - always serve them broiled,
grilled or baked.
- You can cut back on salt in your
recipes by substituting lemon juice, vinegar or herbs.
- Instead of using white and red
wines in your punches, substitute sparkling white and red grape juice.
- Meats ending in "loin"
are your leaner meats (sirloin, pork loin, tenderloin, etc.)
- Ground chicken or ground turkey
are good substitutes for ground beef.
- A great substitute for fatty cream
cheese is yogurt cheese, which can be made by draining plain yogurt through
a cheese cloth overnight (remember that yogurt cheese will separate when heated
unless mixed with cornstarch or egg whites).
- Carbohydrates are the best source
of energy for our bodies and they cause us to burn more calories as heat.
Serve more carbohydrates - pasta, bread, rice and supplement these with
protein and milk.
- When a recipe calls for sour cream
use low-fat yogurt instead.
- Always choose bread that contain
40 calories or less per slice - this way you can have two slices for the price
of one!
- Use the Cooking Sprays instead
of oil or butter.
- Steamed vegetables contain more
nutrients than cooked vegetables.
- Always use sugar substitutes when
you can (do not use substitutes containing aspartame in cooking as the aspartame
will break down).
- You can cut the sugar in most recipes
by half and never notice the difference.
- Cut back on the oil - if you can't
cut back on corn or vegetable oil try switching to olive or canola oil.
- DRINK LOTS OF WATER! It keeps you
FULL!
